TechTV Archive Lives!!!
Go to G4TechTV.com and you'll see a brand-new section called the TechTV Vault. This is where around 50,000 tips, tricks, opinions, rants, and general yummy gooey TechTV treats are finally seeing the light of day again! Holla!
I know a lot of you have been extremely frustrated without access to the content you've grown so used to over the past 6 years. This is a start in the right direction.
I'll probably continue to post new articles here at sarah. word. until things are a little smoother online, but if you're looking for any of my content before the last month or so, just hop on over to.... THE VAULT!
Hey! G4 did something right for a change! I'm still not getting my hopes up, though.

Yes! I've been waiting for this to come!

It's about freakin' time!

Its put together horridly. The G4 Webteam is horrid.
Keep posting your stuff here sarah and do us all a favor.

Does the new g4/techtv site have an RSS feed? The old techtv feed was great.
Posted by: nathan | Friday, June 18, 2004 at 03:55 PM
I miss the old Screen Savers site. Everything is so out of order at teh new G4 site. Hopefully they can get it back to standards
Posted by: Dusty | Friday, June 18, 2004 at 05:47 PM
Thanks for the update, Sarah!
Posted by: Greg | Friday, June 18, 2004 at 08:34 PM
The Vault sucks, I did a search for Bert Monroy, there were only 16 references, nothing for Kate Bordello, its another shabby job done by a shabby little network
No offense Sarah, I like your show, TSS is the only reason I have Tech Tv now, and if it changes, I wont be there, best wishes to you guys.
Posted by: John Buffam | Friday, June 18, 2004 at 10:19 PM
John, maybe you should try doing a search for "Kate Botello."
Posted by: POMP | Friday, June 18, 2004 at 11:03 PM
I don't know about personal tastes of most the viewers but the advertizers seem to be eating this merged version up. As well as the video gaming celebrities.
I noticed Tech t.v. progamming is sparse though. Why still show secret stange and true and not show call for help or tech live? I saw fresh gear once but they don't seem to have any set schedule so that was a matter of luck.
I like the G4.com girls and I thought tommy and vic (?) I think were complete retards at first but now I like them. Plus Filter is a cool show I love seeing those old shool games make the lists. Anime Unleashed still sucks though why not just watch adult swim's anime instead. Well, just some opinions.
Kick ass to see the tech t.v. archives back even if it isn't perfect. what about the office cams? guess that wont matter when there is no longer a SF office.

g4techtv is fucking stupid it used to be a tech channele but now it is all fucking games
Posted by: cary | Saturday, June 19, 2004 at 10:51 AM
G4 page still sucks real bad, do they have 4 year olds doing the webdesign??
Posted by: jamie | Saturday, June 19, 2004 at 11:12 AM
I was hopeful for at least a minute....but sorry Sarah, the vault is still very frustrating :( Doesn't help at all.
Thanks for helping keep us informed as much as you do. It's too bad that you guys have to put the useful content on your own sites.
Appreciate it very much.
Good luck to you both in LA. Miss seeing all of you since we lost TechTV channel. Having TSS & CFH withdrawals.

I can't actually search the new vault, considering the fact that I get this error:
Microsoft Active Server Pages error '800a0001'
XML parse error: An invalid character was found in text content.
/html/search.asp, line 107
I don't know what it is

I hope they get The Screen Saver pages in order. Put your tips on their web page for everyone to find it. Leo tips you can't find where he does on The Screen Savers yet eiter. Should be simlar to TechTV lay out.
Get the newsletter back in order as well. It kind of flat and don't have much as the TechTV for The Screen Savers had. I hope it get fix right in the coming months.
I enjoy coming to your site for your tips from the The Screen Savers.
Thanks for posting your tips on your web site for use to go to and use.

I hate the new valt. I was looking for one of Kevins tips and I typed his name. Everything even things not doing with him showed up. Also you guys should get your own domain. And set that up like the old TechTv style. Like redo www.thescreensavers.com and make it it's own website. Get an RSS feed and there you go.
Sarah who knows where The Screen Savers would be without you.

Your new look you have is great :)
Thanks for all the your help and time ....
Posted by: Brett | Saturday, June 19, 2004 at 08:29 PM
at least I can find things here. the G4 site was so unorganized/confusing/etc. that I was not able to find *anything* about the "downloads of the day". I even emailed the G4 webmaster a week ago - nada, zip, nothing.
thanks for having the Archives here - a big help.

fuck fuck fuck
Posted by: cat | Saturday, June 19, 2004 at 09:24 PM
It's a start, but they've got a long way to go. Being able to limit searches to a particular show would be nice, for starters. (Or at least being able to limit them to just old TechTV stuff - all the old G4 crap sneaking in there is annoying as hell. Then again, the entire cancerous plague that is the G4 infiltration of TechTV has been annoying as hell from the start, so why even bother mentioning it... *sigh*)
Posted by: Matt H | Sunday, June 20, 2004 at 12:17 AM
I think the smart thing to do would be to leave the TechTV vault in the old techtv.com layout. I mean... http://www.g4techtv.com/feature.aspx?article_key=567 The new format makes that article and others like it look so very hideous. Plus the articles that used to have videos accompanying them no longer do. This is most non, non-non, non-heinous :( It's good to see they're at least making progress on it, but they still have much to do to make up for the mistake of fixing something that wasn't broke.
Posted by: vakky | Sunday, June 20, 2004 at 02:56 AM
The vault doesn't look like it's up to speed yet. I notice there are a lot of results on Google referring to the various articles on TechTV, and they are still linking to techtv.com/(article addy). They all end up just redirecting to the G4Techtv site.
Posted by: David | Sunday, June 20, 2004 at 03:15 AM
I also used Bert Monroy as my first test search. The search is very limited and hard to find things. It may be a step in the right direction for a change but until the site auto forwards the old TechTV bookmarks and links to the new homes on G4, I won't be happy. For the past few years I have been bookmarking articles I liked, now they are useless and I still find it hard to track them down in the vault.
Posted by: Stephen | Sunday, June 20, 2004 at 08:12 AM
G4 page has improved; but, it still has a long way to go.
Posted by: Steve | Sunday, June 20, 2004 at 02:09 PM
G4 said this would be a channel that would be about technology and games. So far, judging by the shows and their site I'd say it's more like 99.98% games and .02% tech.

Awesome!!!
I was just needing Leo's Tip: Embed QuickTime Movies in a Webpage a few days ago, and now I can see it again! Thanks for this update!

The Vault sucks pretty bad... I searched for a article from about a month ago (the Norton 500) but it just gave me stuff from 1999. Its better than nothing though. I am also missing some of the old TechTV shows like Techlive
Posted by: Morgan | Monday, June 21, 2004 at 07:45 AM
Sarah, could you please post a link to the site you highlighted recently that helps you register for sites (like the Los Angeles and New York Times) without providing personal information? I've checked the new show notes and the Vault, without luck. It's great that you're posting articles here; I hope the network is underwriting your TypePad fees!

Hi Denise.
I'm not Sarah and I don't play her on tv, but the site you are wondering about is www.bugmenot.com.
If you use Firefox there's a bugmenot extension that quick links you to the site.

Hey Sarah congats for the new contract. It is good to see the show moving to So.Cal. Now I can finally go to the show. And Kevin can finally get a tan. :)
I have to say the g4techtv web site still needs work, but its getting to the point where i can use it without breakin my mouse :)
Hey this is a little off topic but the I wanted to know is there a way to change the color of the "START BUTTON" in xp. I did all the other posted hacks and love it but that green is just sicking.
Posted by: Toby | Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at 09:02 PM
Yes G4 and the vault suck. I'm glad G4 was wise enough to keep some really helpful people like you, Sarah.
I think show notes for May and part of June slipped through the cracks. I was hoping to see what the "ultimate cellphone antenna" was on I believe June 3rd. Please assist, Sarah or someone.

The new G4/TechTV is an act of vandalism. Taking a good resource Call for Help and The ScreenSavers web sites and trashing them, is not very customer friendly.
I wrote and called Comcast and got no responce. The lack of care for the viewers/customers/audiance is quite extreme. I wrote to G4+whatever, no responce.
Whay do they have email and contact us information when they are unresponsive.
I hope ScreenSavers will do ok with you guys, hang in there do what you can to keep some influence and build something new.
Good luck to SArah and all.

I d0on't know what you are bitchin' about but I haven't been able to see any shows since about June 10 when Brooklyn Time-Warner shut down their cable channel here. I have a lot of time on my hands since then.I never realized how much time I spent watching until now.

Ever since the old website went down I have been trying to find Patrick's article on the Norton Sub 500 gaming machine. Where is it?
Why does the new site have so much flash crap and annoying ads?
They must be in cahoots with those annoying X10 people.
Will they ever learn?

I'm glad to see that I am not the only one who is extremely unhappy with the new Tech TV site. No matter where you go it all looks like the home page. The different shows on the channel all have the same home page. Thank you so much for posting your ideas and tip/tricks here. This is the first time I have visited your site. I wish I would have come sooner.

I like the "idea" of the vualt but I still can't find one perticular(?) tip of Sarah's. Awhile back on "The Screen Savers", Sarah said that you could use "?google" to search. The site looks just like the normal google site but I don't know,I just can't remember the site that Sarah gave. Any help?

Any chance of getting a CD with the old archive tips from The Screen Savers and Call for Help. I used the old forums and archives constantly even for helping others and can't access the forums, everything that is there is hard to use and can't find anything.
Is there one place where we can get the tip archives in the old format?
