Something Old… Something New…
Today marks the last day of TechTV before TechTV merges with G4 to become “G4TechTV.”
Many of you have written me to ask what’s really going on with the merger. And I’ve been mum to you all because I want to wait until things are totally, completely, for sure abso-definite before I pass the info along. If you can bear to hear this again, please be patient just a teensy bit longer while life works itself out.
Anyway, tomorrow Kevin and I will both be missing from TSS, with Roger and Cat in our places. But don’t worry, it has nothing to do with the merger. I just happen to be a bridesmaid in my friends Kathy and Ryan’s wedding, so the mister and I are jetting down south to celebrate the festivities. Our comrades from CFH were kind enough to help Pat hold down the fort in our absence, and I thank them.
Now, time to party on the beach for a few days! Check my moblog for the action.
Ok, you’re all informed. Go ahead and make up a conspiracy if you like, but don’t say I didn’t set you straight!
PS- I’ll be one of seven barefoot bridesmaids, complete with an equal number of barefoot groomsmen, a barefooot groom, and a barefoot bride. I understand that a sandy beach wedding kind of calls for this sort of thing, but damn it if I don’t have the cutest red pumps that scream to be a part of this. I mean, really. Shoeless? By choice? Crazy times, man.
Have fun!

Have fun Sarah, and maybe those pumps will be able to be in the next wedding ;)
Also don't stay away too long, we'll miss ya.

Must be extremely frustrating to have to keep that kind of info on the downlow, especially with the intense curiosity of your readers and fans.

Sounds cool. So when are You and Kevin getting married?

I hope everything works out well for you regarding the merger. Have fun at the wedding. At least I got to have shoes on at mine. :-)

A wedding on a beach! That sounds great! Romantic :) I will, on the other hand, be seeing The Day After Tomorrow, where an enormous twister destroys California or something. Typical. The guy goes for the FX bonanza while the girl goes for the romance.

Wow, beach weddings are always neat. As far as this new G4Tech tv thing, I"m kinda pissed, they completely trashed the TechTV website, and the new stuff on G4 isn't worth looking at it seems. As theres no-where near the amount of information there was before.
No spycams either......

Have a blast at da beach!! Glad to have Cat and Roger on TSS!! The new merger sucks and the channel lineup is mostly gamng which is overkill on the gaming shows. Not a fan of the new G4Techtv site either. Not nearly as nice as the old TTV site. I miss the spycams too and all the other stuff. Now all I see is way too much gaming stuff. X-Play was enough for me but oh well. Thanks Comcast for killing Tech TV. Anywho...have fun at the wedding and dun get sand in wierd places!!
Posted by: marcome | Friday, May 28, 2004 at 06:15 AM
I'm quite split about this merger. Gaming is great, and I do it most often, but I see that the lineup has changed. With Call for Help and that one show.. with that one guy.. named Chris.. I think, gone, then there really isn't that much Computer related shows in the line up anymore.

Have fun at the weddin Sarah! Whens your turn? ;)
Anyhow.
Does this mean that you will still be around post-merger? Sure hope so.
Oh, and I hope the sand isnt too hot, could get too hot on the bare feets.

To you and the rest of the old TTV crew the best of luck whatever happens to G$%&
I am hoping that some other media / cable op sees a chance to create a new TechTv type chanell and hires a lot of the telent and staff that are beeing left hanging...

Have fun Sarah. We just attended a pool-side wedding two weeks ago where the bride and bridesmaids were barefoot. A bit strange to me. I can understand that though on a beach.
BTW, I hope you and Kevin make it on over to L.A. for the new TSS. We would miss you terribly if you didn't make the change.
I understand. Moving is a nightmare. I did it three times in my career. I can only say that each move gave us new adventures, new friends and challenges. Make the move now when you are still young. You will be closer to the center of TV action and Kevin will be closer to home.

Getting ready for my wedding. No barefoot bridesmaids here, though.

I think my head has been under a rock or something.I had no idea TechTV and G4 were merging.I'm not happy at all with this, but if it means TechTV lives, then sobeit.I just hope that G4's teeny-bopper,silly,child oriented programming doesnt rub off on TechTV.I don't know why..I just cant stand G4.Their demeanor is just very cheesy in my opinion.

You talked in one of the last episodes of the Screen Savers of a way to hide drives on your computer. At the time, I thought that I'll never ever need to use it, but am considering setting up a dual boot system using two separate hard drives and I want to hide the other one from each OS. Hope that makes sense. Anyway, while looking for the show's page, I came across your page and felt like a stalker, so I decided to drop a wurd (LOL) to let you know how much I enjoy the show and I try to watch it every chance I have. You and Kevin along with the rest of the crew are great! Thanks for everything!

what?

I just have to comment on this so I can share my pain.... the last wedding for which I was a bridesmaid was my sister's third wedding. There were 3 of use bridesmaids, and my sister had us wearing SEC football cheerleader outfits, including pom-poms for "bouquets."
I'm not kidding.
This was about 4 years ago, and the nightmares still haunt me.

Sarah,
It's very hard for me to see this merger thing go down. Comcast as you surmised NEVER intended to do anything for the TechTV fans in the first place. They are only using Leo's phoyos as an excuse to lure in potential (Guillible) viewers
into their site and channel.
And I really don't see TSS lasting much longer by the time July hits. But I decided to wash my handfs of their brain dead mentality. Let them have their fun - until it all comes crashing down on them.
Be brave.

PARDON ME, I MUST VENT.
First and foremost, OH MY GOD. I have like 100 Tech TV emails saved so that I could access the links when I had more time. Puh-leeze tell me that there will eventually be a way to access the Tech TV archives.
Second, I've TRIED to watch G4, I really have, but I don't like it and no one can make me like it because your not the boss of me. I know it's just getting off the ground and I'm TRYING to be fair and give it a chance, but it's not my fault that it bites. The new channel is definitely geared towards the gamer, which I am not (I do play a mean game of Pac-man though).
The website is irritating and it's archives go back about 2 days. Every page has the same info, the same links and the same info and the same links and the same info (you don't have to actually check out the website, you just got a feel for it). I KNOW it's a new network and I GUESS they had to make a new website, but well...it bites as well. I can't believe that I can't access info from past Tech TV shows AND as far as I know, you can't get the daily newsletter emails from specific shows either...I've come to depend on those emails. I feel lost, incomplete and yes, even helpless. I've considered taking up drinking or smoking to fill the gaping hole that is my email inbox. I think there may be a way to get a "weekly" newsletter, but I'm pretty sure it's a "general" G4/Tech TV newsletter. I don't want a newletter about G1-G3, let alone one from G4. If anyone out there with any "pull" is listening, might I suggest a newsletter that has recaps only of TSS, Fresh Gear and other Tech TV faves. Don't mention anything about G4, don't even start a sentence with the letter "G"....and change the network name to "Tech TV," it's very catchy.
I'm seriously not a mean person; I am spineless though. In fact, if I had to sign my name to this letter, I never would have written it for fear of hurting someone's feelings (and/or burning in eternal HELL). But this way I'm just a nameless, faceless Gen Y whiner like everyone else. I love the internet.
I REALLY DO hope for the sake of Sarah, Kevin and everyone else employed by the new network, that it's a success and that it stop's biting (there is a lot of biting going on there).
I just miss Tech TV...is that SO WRONG???
P.S. Sarah, I hope you have fun at the wedding, don't worry about me, I'll be fine. I'll just watch cartoon network in my extremely confining shoes and eat a lot of ice cream because I'm 30 years old and not married. Godspeed.

Hi Sara, I hope all is well with you, Kevin, Patrick and the rest of the Screen Savers folks. I watched you guys every day but now I can't stand to watch because of all the G4 crap during the breaks. Best of luck to all of you.

Sarah the new G-4 tech news letter is GAY!
What have they done. no links no color . Whats going on there are they going to turn that into hip hop tv also we dont need a new attitude from the execs , I used to tune in for the alternative to the mainstream now , I dont know its all the same(except for TSS of course)

I whole heartadlyagree with everyones dismay at g4 format and attitude. I am an in the 70's sr citizen who has been watching Tech Tv since about 1998 and who has learned so so much from all of you "geeks" and techies. Much from Leo since the days of ZDnet etal. They have certainly gutted it of any redeming qualities and hope someone else can possibly pick up where I thought it would be going with "Uncle Paul" guess he needed the money for his space flight. Too bad the quantity and quality of the shows have been decimated and really not worth watching except for screensavers. Hope you guys all do ok in La and that they get their heads screwed on sometime in the near future. The gaming sucks but I am sure there must be some who enjoy it which is what tv is all about. Good luck in the future to every one of you Tech Tv techies .

I agree with the above that the new site is kinda' lame. I miss using tech tv/tss as a learning center/resource. It is so hyped up I can't find anything useful. Luckily I found this place where there are useful tips and tricks. You rock Sarah..!
Posted by: Andy | Thursday, June 10, 2004 at 06:13 PM
Hi Sarah,
I have to say (though I believe everyone else has commented on it), that the G4 Techtv merger plain pisses me off! I just checked the new website and I would think that TSS will have to do a show on how to navigate the damn place. I can't find anything pretty to look at nor remotly useful. I feel for you guys and I hope u have it better than the loyal fans of you and the rest of the TSS crew. How Shameful...- Oh and have fun at the wedding :)

Weddings! I love any stories about weddings, and it seems like what you have was truly fabulous. Maybe you can help your bride friend look for some groomsmen presents (http://www.executivegiftshoppe.com/groomsmen-gifts.html)?
