Why Pets Rule
I just had to share Tyson, the skateboarding bulldog with you, in case you haven't been totally amazed lately.
I never had a dog that could shred like this, but my labrador Rosie had a special talent for apple consumption.
Before her, my lab/blue heeler Daisy was an expert scavenger and was constantly bringing home things like pots and knives. We could never figure out where she was stealing them from- but she never got caught, and we made out with some great utensils.
But my most amazing pet story comes from Jack, who also happened to be one of world's most amazing cats. In the summer of 1993, my family moved houses in Sebastopol. Our new house was about 4 miles and many orchards away from the house we'd been in for years. The first day in the new neighborhood, Jack got out and went missing. Although this is typical behavior of uprooted cats, Jack was elderly and we worried. He didn't come back for dinner.. or breakfast.... or at all. After accepting many different homes throughout the years, Jack had drawn the line. It was one of the saddest losses we'd ever had. This was a very, very special cat.
Maybe a week or so after we moved, my dad swung by the old house for one reason or another. Guess who was there? Yep. Jack had walked the entire distance back to the old house- through orchards, streams, along roads and across intersections- all in typical feline protest. He was pretty sick and weary, but at least he had made his point. Dad brought him to his new home for the second time, and he never left us again. A true rathead at heart, that Jack.
Give your pet a hug today!
This was cool like a month ago. Something new please.

Ummm....Dude..This is her blog. Where do you get off telling her what type of content to post.
That kinda sounds like a Mini story of that movie years ago about those pets that crossed the country.
Would that cat still be alive by any chance? Cats have a weird way of living longer than they look, we've got a cat that lives outside thats more than 14 years old. She still stays alive though....

My goldfish would like to take issue with your last suggestion.

Labs are the best kind of dog. I've had one all my life (24,000 years).
Also your blog is getting kind of OLD, I think it's time for a redesign. Also you should switch over to WordPress, it's much better than MovableType!!!

Ok i dont care what anyone says i love my dog and she is very intelligent, she has my entire family trained lol. She barks in a certain way we let her out. Or is she looks at us in a certain way she wants attention.
That is sorta cool about your old cat sarah, but im not really a cat person. There is a story behind that but trust me none of you want to hear it. Oh well back to my work, arg i hate college sometimes.

That's rather impressive :O My old cat Howie used to be able to jump onto the roof of my house from the roof of my car (6 or 7 feet). This lady who lived in our neighborhood started putting soft food out for him and eventually he kinda moved in with her. Which pissed me off, as he was my favorite cat, but he was obviously happier there, and she lived alone so I let it be.
My dog Maggie is an amazing digger. She's been working on a nifty little canyon in the back yard.
My cat Screamer used to be able to stand on his hind legs for like a minute with proper motivation (chicken, for instance), but then he got all fat and lost that ability.
One of my cats has apparently learned how to open windows (including the locks), but I haven't yet managed to catch 'em in the act.
Breaker would be a star running back in a cat football league. He's named Breaker cause he loves to dart through doors, and he's quite good at kinda juking and blasting past me when I try to block him. Screamer has the same habit, cept he's more of a fullback, just whacks right into my leg and keeps going.
The rest of my cats are lazy little guys, but they are sweet. Strawberry-flavored, actually.

Man,
I can't believe you guys are trying to tell Sarah how to run her OWN blog. How sad is that.
Seriously, if she wants to change it, she will.
Back to other items of importance...
Far from Home is the name of the movie I was thinking about.......I think.

That "dark magician" guy is kinda creepy... stalkerish, even.
Posted by: adf | Thursday, April 29, 2004 at 12:31 PM
Fighter, might it be "Homeward Bound" you're thinkin of? It had two dogs and a cat, one of the dogs voiced by Michael J. Fox, going cross-country to find their old home, or their new home, or some sort of home away from home, I forget. Reminds me of The Brave Little Toaster. Both fun to watch in that cheesy childish goodness kind of way. Yadayada... "He bit me with his butt!" ... *shudder*

Really.....am i creepy??? Im sorry i kinda wish i knew what you found so creepy about me. And what makes me a stalker.
A very sad Dark Magician

I for one don't think you're creepy Dark Magician. I'm a freak, so maybe I'm not the best judge of character. Anyway, you're cool with me. :D
Yeah, animals really are amazing. The stories are unending of their incredible acts. And pets are just like a part of the family. It's those with little understanding and sympathy that make statements like "It's just a dog!". Anyway, I hope they fill your heart with love and happiness girl! You deserve it! Give your dad a great big hug for me every chance you get. And live your life to the fullest. Life is short and shouldn't be filled with regrets. Even though I'm empathic enough to know you wouldn't live your life like that. ;)
Best wishes,
Hyper :)

Thanks Hyper Smiley. Guess i also fall into that freak status. im still just a little self concious over the stalker thing. Of course any time anyone says something like that to me i get that way lol, great now im a freaky loser. Oh well ill just get over it.

Well, this is me, commenting on Sarah's site. I am curious... Is it weird that we all go to Sarah's site and comment and stuff? She's just a regular ol' gal, who happens to be on TV. Wow... TV... Wish I worked on The Screen Savers or something. I feel like a kid, wanting something I can't have... Oh well...
Sarah! You're cool! All of you at TechTV are great! You seem like awesome people and I'd love working with you anytime with anything.
In reaction to your post, well, most of my cats have run away in the past, and I don't keep them any more. They were all males, so I suppose ummm... Yah.
Posted by: Byron | Friday, April 30, 2004 at 09:08 PM
Nothing weird about it Byron. No matter how you look at it. We are all connected. And everyone is 'regular' no matter how much they rise or are perceived. We all go through the endless cycle of the infinitum interacting with others. It's just nature. Just be happy that you're doing something. :) You're my idol Sarah! I will worship you till the end of time! 8) The maniacle laughing ensues. :D

Pets are like children. too many people adopt pets without the lifetime commitment that’s required. I’ve had two cats in my life without much time for either of them. but I never gave up on a pet. It’s just not an option. I always wished I had time for a dog. Not that I ever chose to have a pet. They just sort of get thrust upon you.
Nice job on hosting. I really like your news segments. You give the news pizzazz! I generally don’t like canned segments although I do like some of the interviews. I wish Kevin would find a great deal on an athlon system as he has with dells. I’m holding out for a pci express motherboard.
I heard you liked itunes. It’s given me back music. Even with only eighty downloads, the random play feature is outstanding. Once I download a couple hundred more I’ll never change a station again. Last night was the cutoff for the pepsi giveaway. I had about ten caps I either drank or were given to me. Of course when I came home the cable was out. While I was sleeping I woke up and noticed the cable light was on and I snuck them in just under the wire. It’s a good thing apple resides on the west coast…

Alas, Goldie the Goldfish is no longer amongst the living.
Also, who's this guy who's pushing this band. You must be desperate if you're doing ads on blog comment boards.

ok wait what do you have against me. I was just mentioning a good band, in my opinion that deserves more attention. Besides i dont think there was anything bad with MENTONING them. Didnt sarah more or less do the same with Low Water. Im not throwing off on sarah or anything but if she can do it i dont see whats wrong with me doing it.

Bad news everyone... Quote from Leoville
"I've just learned that G4 has fired the entire staff of TechTV.
Per the WARN Act (governing plant closings) all the employees of TechTV have been given 60 days notice. The San Francisco operation will be shuttered by July. 100 of the existing jobs will be posted for those willing to relocate to LA.
Outgoing COO, Joe Gillespie will say good-bye to the troops tomorrow. Incoming CEO Charles Hirschorn will say hello (and good-bye) on Monday.
No word on which shows G4 will keep or which hosts will be kept on."

Sorry Sarah.

I am SO sorry about what's happened. I too an waiting to see what a purchase of our TV station will mean to my job..
Again.. I'm sorry about the situation.
Posted by: GarryinCanada | Thursday, May 06, 2004 at 07:21 PM
There is some hope:
From a a cnet news report:
"G4 plans to maintain the San Francisco office as a production facility run by a few employees, David Shone, a spokesman for G4 TV said. G4 currently employs 205 people in Los Angeles and a small sales staff in New York."

Here is another petition to rehire the TechTv staff if anybody wants to give it a shot. http://www.petitiononline.com/TT040506/petition.html
Posted by: other | Thursday, May 06, 2004 at 09:25 PM
Ridiculous, I say. TechTV was the only thing decent on US television and the only reason I wanted cable in my apartment anyway.
That's it for Comcast. They have lost all my respect by shutting down the one f--king channel that I actually watched religiously, and now I'm cancelling all my services with them.
Hello DSL.
I also do deeply apologise, Sarah, for the mess that has occurred. Hopefully things will work out for you in the end. Supposedly The Screen Savers is one of the only shows headed over to the G4 network (I'm really going to miss Unscrewed).
Overall this whole thing is stupid. In hindsight of typing all this, there is a topic over on slashdot.org to leave our discussion of this in... for Sarah's sake (in bandwidth, at the least) let's argue, rant, and scream over there.

Sarah,
I wish you, Kevin, and everyone else the very bust of luck in the future. It really sucks that Comcast is pulling this crap on you. You deserve better than that.
I send a big hug to the entire cast and hope to see you guys pop up somewhere else.
Thank you so much for such great shows and for bringing your wonderful selves into our homes.
Posted by: William Phoenix | Friday, May 07, 2004 at 09:24 AM
Hmm well if the way TSS handled that Comcast news note the other day about people downloading stuff illegally and should send a written apology is an indication of the future...it may not be such a bad thing they are going.
The old TSS would have dealt with the implications of that upfront and straight forward instead of doing the here ya go, be aware, and hope you can infer the implications because we can't tell ya cause our daddy will get mad.
Even though the old head honcho was a head honcho at MS they still bashed MS when it deserved it. Now though it is going to be "Disneyfied" where only good and happy things can be said or written about comcast seriously damaging any credibility.
Also lets face, IF they hire back some of the hosts and people we familiar with, it will probably be at an awesome pay cut and demotions.
So in the end, its a shame to see you go. Tragic really and wish all of the TechTV the very best in future endeavors.

Well crappy crap crap crap on a stick.
Sarah I used to love everyone on tech t.v. but the truth is now I really don't. On that note though I will really miss you, kevin, pat, leo, martin and adam. Well, if anyone there goes. I hope not.
I paid my freaking astronomical satallite bill and they SAID it went through, then a week later they cut me back off saying the payment hadn't posted. So if tech t.v. does go out, if it goes out in the next few weeks I'll miss it. I hate that thought.
But honestly a lot of what I felt about tech t.v. and how awesome everyone was has been varnished anyway by the playboy thing. Hear me out, I've been stewing over this for a while I need to get it out. Sarah your awesome, and I never really expected you to pose and I didn't get upset when you didn't.
What DOES upset me is the way this was handled. Morgan's actions mostly, have made me view her in a completely different and, trust me, unflattering light. I can't even watch X-play anymore (okay I do when I still can) but I just get sick to my stomach everytime they show her. The way I see it is though, most all of the girls envolved really played it up. Laura on unscrewed toppless doing commercials to vote for her! and see her boobs! (shameless) Cat on her blog saying vote for me. Morgan, not doing anything like that but saying she was "open to discussion" or whatever if she won and then going HAHAHAHAHAHAHA *flips playboy and male viewers/fans off* And going As if!! It's mainly morgan's way of handling this that got me. Now with the comcast thing and possible lay offs I guarantee you her posing would have only helped her continue a career in entertainment. I can guarentee you a lot of her previous fans felt the way I do about this.
Bah, I don't care who posed or who didn't (which was all of them) I care because all of you made it such a big deal (with the exception of you sarah, one of the main reasons I still like seeing you on t.v. and like you as a personality) but in the aftermath now NONE of the girls will even talk about it, or say no we aren't posing or whatever. And playboy, at the same time won't say anything either. They still have the link on their site like it's a real thing.
All in all I have to say the whole thing was like one huge *bleep* tease. The way this has been just dropped and the way most fans like me probably feel is really crapped on here. The whole thing shows blatant disregard for the very fans that voted in the poll.

Dear Sarah,
Loved the skateboarding dog! And I love my yanimals. Here is a song I wrote for my favorite floor horse, (cat) Samhat, who passed last year. Sung to the music of Badlands. by Bruce Springsteen. Hope I'm not off subject from what I've been reading here, but anyway:
With that Samhat, you've got to live every day,
Just to fill her bowl, is the price you've got to pay.
And if you give up that food, you know that Samhat keep treating you gooood.
Whoa whoa whoa whao, Samhat....
My poor cat got mouth cancer and died, but I still sing her song.
This other crap means nothing, enjoy your success. Peace.

I wonder how they do that? by smell? or do you think that they actually can remember landmarks and things like us humans to find their way.I had a 3 legged black cat named seabreeze that I lost in south jersey, you think I should look for him back home in the florida keys?

My dog did something similar years ago. I was staying over my Dad's house with my dog Rover. My Dad thought he was going to mess in his house so at 5 in the morning he decides to walk him using only a rope. My Dad didn't really have anything else. The dog got away from him and managed to cross a busy street and travel 10 blocks back to my house a couple hours later

I had a cat named Jack too! He was an awesome little man. Sadly, we lost him to a car accident in Oct 2002 - I was so upset over it that I did the only thing I could think of and built a website for him.

2 QUESIONS
I had almost half a years worth of articles from techTV saved on my hard disk, and one day i got frustrated @ windows, and drove the overszed 10 pD keyboard into the side of the computrer. At the time i forgot i had replaced the floppy drive with my 40 GB MAXTOR drive, with EVERYTHING on it....
1 Is there going to be a DVD that we can buy with some or all of the episodes on it?
2 Where can i find reliable DATA RECOVERY/HARD DRIVE REPAIR service's. Any particular website services...
