I hate my glasses...
...but I can't deny that they help me focus on computer screen text a lot more easily, and for longer periods of time. Because of my increased superhero vision, I did some fun reading today.
Dihydrogen Monoxide - WTF is this and why am I just hearing about it? The site is written like an editorial piece, which annoys me... but otherwise, my interest is peaked. If you have any info, please share.
Edit: Two comments already about this. Ok, ok, April Fool's. I was just experimenting with widespread panic! Buzzkill. However, it's a great tool for you philosophophiles.
Fiji's Calling - Who's with me?
Sour Patch Kids - I truly think people are crazy. I never imagined that at some point in my life, my happiness would upset so many. Wild!
PS- The rest of you are rad.
Swans - Ugh! Shocking! Sick! I'll probably watch, just to see. Tim Goodman is fantastic. I read a bit more today, but that was just boring TechTV/G4/Comcast stuff that nobody cares about.
It is H2O(water)!

Oh Sarah, dear sarah - _please_ set us all straight that you did, indeed, have your tongue planted firmly in cheek when you asked what Dihydrogen Monoxide is. Of course, it is April 1, after all, even though your post is March 31.
The site's own press page sets its own record straight:
"The original purpose of the site was as a sort of writer's therapy to blow off steam about all the devious (and sometimes just ignorant) ways the truth is bent to prove a point by some in the media, politics, sales, environmental activism, organized religion, web site authoring, etc."
Posted by: Lee Bennett | Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at 10:33 PM
I have to say that Dihydrogen Monoxide is very dangerous. It is everywhere, it causes frequent urination, it is polluted sometimes, and worst of all it is taking over the world, and soon we will have no where to live....aaahhhhh! Wait, is it April Fool's? :o)

I'm with you on Fiji girl! Lord knows I need a vacation! As far as the comments on the message boards about people sick of your relationship. Remember that ignorance truly is bliss. Acknowledge and guide your attention only to that which you deem worthy.Oh, personally I think women look great in glasses. But if it bothers you that much. You could always try out for Swans. Although I don't think the world considers you an ugly duckling. ;)
Best wishes, and stay cool!

Was the "Sour Patch Kids" link supposed to go to a certain post on the TechTV message boards? Right now it just goes to the main index...

Poor poor sarah. Unfortunatly glasses are a necessary evil for you but look at the bright side you can atleast take yours off. I have been stuck with mine for around 11 years, and i mean constantly from when i wake up to when i go to bed. I would get contacts but unfortunatly my eyes are sensative to things close to them so my doctor wont let me and besides i alteast get geek cred with my glasses lol.
ok now i have to ask what on earth are yout talking about with that "I truly think people are crazy. I never imagined that at some point in my life, my happiness would upset so many." I hope someone can help me with that one. Better cut this off before i write like 4 or 5 paragraphs on everything. Later all

Ps Sarah we do care about the TechTv/G4/Comcast stuff.

Ohh the sour patch kids i get it now. Im with Hyper Smily on this one they are just ignorant and they are blissfully unaware of how good you have when you in a good relationship. Of course im am still you know unaware of it myself but i atleast dont go around bashing. I think there is quote that says "No one can make you feel badly about yourself without your consent." i cant remember who said it i think it was a first lady but its a good way to look at criticism.

Sour patch kids.
You know, I've seen that stuff on the message boards and really don't understand why people have a problem with the relationship. I think the banter between you two is really cute. Makes you guys more real to the viewer. I would guess that most of the sour stuff is from guys who have no life and now know that you are taken. LOL
Keep up the good work! I've really just started watching the show and am really enjoying it.
Posted by: Grannon | Thursday, April 01, 2004 at 07:32 AM
I like the way you look when you wear your glasses (in a non-stalkerish kind of way). Not that you not wearing glasses don't make you look just as attractive.
Also, it allows you to focus to make sure that you don't have a 'bun in the oven' :)
Posted by: HIGHWAY | Thursday, April 01, 2004 at 10:30 AM
I am a big fan of the Screen Savers, but I do have to agree with some of the posts in the forums about your and Kevin's relationship.
I watch the show for information and entertainment, and though I wish you and Kevin the best, watching some of your guys banter doesn't fit under those categories for me.
Still a huge fan of the show though.

Penn & Teller had a bit on Dihydrogen Monoxide on an episode of their show "Bullsh!t" on Showtime. The topic of the show was the environment. Basically they went to some big environmentalist gathering and asked people to sign a petition to ban dihydrogen monoxide.

I think people don't where glasses enough, especially women. Be proud to be bespectacled.

Fiji is the filthiest place that I have ever been in my life. The Indoneseans have moved in and own everything of value (property wise) so the local trash everything they can. Driving down the road is like being in an endless garbage dump. Having said that, the diving on the outer islands amoung the reefs is beautiful - especially if you are a shark lover like me.
Posted by: rf | Thursday, April 01, 2004 at 03:50 PM
OK, Fiji, like just about everywhere else, has got its good spots and its not-so-good spots. Just read up. I'll be staying on Beachcomber Island come August to detox after the NY Bar exam. Beachcomber's a tiny island off a tiny island...paradise beckons.

Hey, I just wanted to say that I care very much about the whole Comcast thing. I watch two shows, The Screen Savers and The Simpsons. I would hate to, in anyway, lose one of them. I can only speak for myself but, i know many would agree. You guys make some of the finest television around.
Just thought you should know.

Posted by: raserei516 | Thursday, April 01, 2004 at 07:57 PM
letteth the ramblings commenceth!
Dihydrogen Monoxide: all april foolin aside, you have to be careful, it's the only naturally occuring universal solvent on Terra
Fiji: oooooh aaaaaah. I have to admit this: Having won the sarahlane.com Lifetime Achivement award was once the greatest day in my life, however I did get engaged on x-mas eve, and all the Fiji talk is a cold reminder that I have about 14 months before we hit this little private island resort in the British West Indies for the honeymoon. Fly, time, fly!
nationally televised interpersonal relationship dialogue: pfttt...go for it. It adds a unique dimension to the show - instead of being two anonymous talking heads, it's Sarah and Kevin! Besides, if you deux tried to cover it up, folks would be making a big deal out of that. It's the Kobayashi Maru scenario all over again and Shatner's not hanging around to cheat his way out of this one.
cranial mounted ocular enhancement devices - (robot week makes me talk funny....) I'm the person in my family that does not have to wear them. My parents wore em, all my grandparents wore em, everyone. I really owe the gypsies that left me on ma and paw's doorstep a debt of gratitude for having superior eyesight!
barely related TTV/G4/Comcast question = on G4's press release, they make no mention of the merged channel being available on Bright House Networks, even though they currently air both TTV and G4. I assume I'll have the new station, but if not...*shudder*
Posted by: Matt C | Thursday, April 01, 2004 at 10:56 PM
I didn't even know you wore glasses Sarah. Does anyone know if TechTv is really moving to LA?
And is Leo really leaving TechTV for good??
Posted by: whoami | Friday, April 02, 2004 at 10:29 AM
DiHydrogen Monoxide ore H2O is simply the chemical name for water.
Sarah Lane, on the otherhand, is simply the lovelest lady in High Tech. Thank the Lord for brains and beauty in one package!
Posted by: Bob Cat | Friday, April 02, 2004 at 11:52 AM
IF tech tv changes to G4 it will ruin everything. G4 is horrible in comparison so tech tv would be takng a step down the quality ladder by merging with G4.
Posted by: chris | Friday, April 02, 2004 at 01:52 PM
there was a penn and teller bullshit episode about the environment and how its all a bunch of crap when people say its getting worst and we are ruining etc. etc.
but, they took a petition to ban dihydrogen monoxide to a rally for the enviroment and everyone signed it, not even knowing it was water.
I read that I was like? huh? surely sarah knows what it is. good one I must say.
WHAT WHAT WHAT? what is this? tech t.v. merger? screw that. if it isn't broke don't fix it right?

Tony's Anti-Comcast Rant....
Comcast=Multi-Media Monopoly...Case-in-Point. I used to live in Allentown PA. Basic cable fee per month - $30. I move 25 miles south (nearer to Philly). Basic cable fee per month - $43? WTF!! It's the same channels....the same shows, networks. Why, I ask? Oh yeah!! Comcast is the only cable company that exists here!! It's called "Gouging". The fact that the population is double here evidently means no nevermind to them. Of course they're gonna come up with some tired excuse of technology costs and equipment maintenance and wah-wah-wah-wah. You know the drill.
The solution....ban Comcast and all things related to them. I live in a Comcast-free home. My cable is Directv and my broadband is Verizon. Comcast can suck it....and like it.
End of rant. Sorry.
BTW - Glasses suck, and I've had them since the 2nd grade, but contacts are a pain and I don't trust anyone with a razor blade to go anywhere near my eyes for the Lasik surgery. "F" that!

Di (meaning 2) Hydrogen
Mono (meaning 1) Oxygen
H= Hydrogen
O= Oxygen
Written in "chemistry format":
H2O (Water :)
Coincidentally, there was a whole piece on this on last night's "Bullsh*t" on Showtime (with Penn & Teller)

Sad.

What!? No way! Leo can't be gone for good. With age comes wisdom and Leo is the wisest person I know. :D Seriously, Leo is the one that started me watching back when it was ZDTV. Someone tell me it's not true.
Posted by: Hyper Smiley | Saturday, April 03, 2004 at 05:20 PM
it is not, he is sleaving screen savers for good but will still be on call for help everyday. Check his blog. leoville.com
Posted by: chris | Saturday, April 03, 2004 at 07:09 PM
Yes, check the blog, but make sure to hit that refresh button. Leo's contract is up, he negotiated a new one, but at the last minute Vulcan Ventures/TTV added parameters he was not amenable to, and did not sign. Leo is currently a TV Free Agent but has contacted G4 to inform them of his interest in returning after the merger is completed.

I read a bit more today, but that was just boring TechTV/G4/Comcast stuff that nobody cares about.
Posted by: Robert W. Leu | Sunday, April 04, 2004 at 11:11 AM
I dunno about anybody else but I care about this merger stuff. Actually it pisses me off. And I'm a huge video game fan, I HATE that we don't get G4 on directv. That said I love tech t.v. the way it is. Don't get started on Leo being gone, now this, no more tech t.v. as we know it? I mean, sure they are keeping call for help x-play and screensavers but all that's just a decision away from saying bye too.
Really makes me mad, funny though, everyone got bent out of shape at the tech t.v. execs for the playboy fiasco but no one seems to care when they lose Leo and change the channel completely. I had hoped to work for tech t.v. one day, kind of a dream of mine next to indy film maker. So much for that..
BTW, Leo's blog says he is off the channel completely, I read nothing about him staying on call for help, to the opposite he even said he wasn't and there was some new guy who's last name he forgets.

Yeah, working at TechTv was a dream of mine to. Oh well, there is always National Geographic.
Maybe Leo will get hired on G4...maybe.
Posted by: new_guy | Monday, April 05, 2004 at 02:06 PM
I see, what a shame. I like video games, a lot, but tech tv knows the balance between tech and video games. Games are a large part of technology but not all of it. What about tech live, fresh gear, invent this, Future fightling machines, spy school. These are all great shows that will be lost. Many people watch tech tv for only computer stuff, comcast will suffer large audience loss when it merges. G4, is for video games only that is why there are two channels. Also, I have direct tv and dont get g4, is that a sucks for me and the few million other people kind of thing. I say that we boycott the channel merger. Maybe not the actual purchase, but the merger of the cannels themselves. Perhaps the inclution of some g4 shows on tech tv and vise versa would be a better approach.
Sorry for my rants and good day fellow tech tv fans
Chris

i must admit i really want all to go well with the merger but im depressed enough right now with all the things going on in my life and this isnt really something i want to think about. It seem so stupid how much you can care about people that you dont actually know or never met (TSS, CFH, and X-play im talking to you). Though i may not know these people they do atleast take time out of their lives to entertain and educate me and i cant help but feel stressed now that there is a problem in their lives. I guess im not use to not being there for people and their problems. Guess i better end this silly rant before I begin to gush.
Posted by: Jason aka The Dark Magician | Monday, April 05, 2004 at 08:03 PM
Jason, I know what you mean. It never even occured to me that tech t.v. which I thought was doing so well and universaly loved was going to change or go anywhere. Then just outta no where.
Comcast and Directv are in direct competition so I'm really not thinking we will get the channel at all anymore (there's a lot of people watching on directv)
..and I'm sorry but I feel the Leo thing is just an impending sign of the coming tech t.v. apocolypse. I can't even imagine those shows without him.
Posted by: John-Paul | Tuesday, April 06, 2004 at 05:45 AM
Yeah, i think i feel the same way too, i was so happy with tech t.v. that i thought it would be here to stay. Overall i know life goes on and all that, but i can't help getting upset for all the people I watch everday at 7:00.....
When i think that they might lose thier jobs, after doing such fine work....it just pisses me off. I don't know what else to say....i wish everyone the best of luck.

Hey Sarah congrats on hosting tonight. Nice outfit 2. Thank god for spycams or else i would never get to see a live episode of TSS. Wow im so patethic lol. Later all im off to go realize why i have no life.

Fiji? Baby, I'm down with you! I don't mind if Kevin goes, so long as he doesn't mind going as checked baggage! (ha!)
As to all the TTV/G4/Comcast stuff, I can only hope that your merger goes better than mine has. I'm a victim of a series of mergers at another cable network, and can tell you that every time a memo comes out, we lose something else. Its funny to read the memos about other networks that have been absorbed - you'd think they're using a stock template and just filling in the blanks.
Ride it for all you can, have all the fun that you can, and get out when it isn't fun anymore.
I'll keep my fingers crossed.
xo

Man, I'm with you guys, I'd be very concerned with this merge if it goes through. Usually the first thing to go over half the staff.
I'm sorry we've gone waaaaaay off topic with your blog, Sarah. But as you can see, the die hard fans (and even some new fans that had their nerves stomped on) have spoken.
Oh yeah, Comcast is out here in my market too... they put up a billboard I drive past on my way home from work every day. "Technology changed today.... catch up"
Posted by: nashvillan | Wednesday, April 07, 2004 at 09:16 PM
I personally think this whole merger thing is gonna be for the worst. It sounds like G4 think that they are God and that TTV is nothing. I personally think they are very wrong. It sounds like they still want to call it G4 and that they want to outwiegh everything TTV with their stupid G4 programing. Thats the biggest mistake they could ever make. They could compress an intire year of gaming information into an 8 hour program once a year. But they want to have all of their mindless bable overtaking good content such as the screen savers. I think they are gonna alienate the TTV viewers to a point of where they will start losing viewers rather than gaining (which is obviously why they are doing the merger). I also hope that they are able to keep the quality of the TTV shows up, because right now G4 has some really $#!tty production values. I'm so pissed off that I can't come up with any words to express my anger. I have to make ones up, like gogelipogily, and razafratamatic. What are you gonna do though when you can scream at the top of your lungs and no one will listen?

Ive been trying to think how to say this nicely but im afraid i cant. Im still fried over all this stuff and i know we cant ignore it but cant we just pretend 2. Im sure right now while I write this Sarah is sound asleep either with Kevin beside her or she is dreaming of him (and on a total side note if she is that is so cute). So please can we stop talking about this. And if we can i would like to say i would like to see sarah post at least once on this comment section would be atlease somewhat reassuring that this inst greatly affecting her life, though im sure she does have better things to do might calm me down a little, yes i realized that was self serving and im sorry. If im making anybody upset with my veiws well guess what my email is on here so tell me im wrong or if you want ill throw up my aol and you can all tell me through those various smilies. Late all

Sarah can't commit. Could be get her fired right now during the delicate transition. And make no mistake, its delicate.
As it stands:
a) techtv is being moved to LA (G4's headquarters). Not exactly close for most of the people that work at TTV, so most forced to quit for that reason.
b) Those that don't quit may get fired because they are redundant workers. For instance the camera men, producers, janitors, marketing, etc. G4 already has their own, no need to absorb most of them.
Really all they need are the hosts and maybe a producer from each show keeping. Other then that could toss the whole bunch.
Make no mistake, mergers universally equal layed off. One of the ways business make back some of the money spent is to knock off as much of the workforce as is possible. A damn shame, hope this proves to be exception to the rule cause don't like anyone to be out of a job, but chances are its going to be total upheaval.

One of our favorite work sayings is "Let’s work late and finish it, Who’s with me?" Just as crazy as the belushi original every time we say it. Your vacation choices are out there. keep close to civilization if you want to survive. There’ll be plenty of time for the far out ideas when times are more friendly.
I’ve been drinking a lot of softdrinks for the caps and downloading free itunes. I’ve downloaded three. Semi charmed life, hey baby, and give (dishwala) No serious picking, just three off the top of my head. I plan on drinking a lot of soda. Leo has a taste in music I can’t fathom. Are the rest of the cast country bumkins as well?

Sarah, I share your hate for glasses, but art quite ready for laser eye surgery. I've read alittle about thing like the "see clearly method" which envolve eye exercises to improve your vision. Try it out, tell us your results on the show. (I've been recently been told by my optotrician (sp?) to take my glasses off more, that I should not rely on them for every waking moment, etc. etc. I tend to stare at a CRT to much (just beyond focal distance).
Hugs,

Does that eye thing really work. That would be great for me but i actually just look stupid without my glasses on. And im not just saying that i have to squint so much that my eyes tend to see that I kinda have to no choice but to look stupid. And for those of you reading this and thinking "Jason you should get contacts that way you dont have to worry about glasses," im sorry to say your wrong. My doctor says my eyes are to sensative to movement and whats around them to use contacts, this might be due to the fact that i freaked out when he tried to put one in last time i had an eye exam. Heck i started squirming around when he got that light close to my eye, what kinda pansy am i LOL. Wait i've gotten off track. What are these Eye exercises specifically, i would like to please know. If anyone knows please email them to me.
Also just a heads up but i there is a lone cowboy throwing down to all the "Sour Patch Kids" on the message boards. I dont think that can end well but im not really one to back down from something like this so im probablly gonna go back him up. Later

OMG Sarah, I read your “sour patch” entry – got curious – looked at some of the TechTV message board entries – at first laughed about the stupidity of some of these people, and then actually started to get disgusted and angry and stopped reading. From now on I will only consult the boards for strictly tech-related information/questions. For whatever it’s worth: I believe that the “more intelligent” Tech TV viewers have better things to do then spend all day on message boards gossiping and talking bad about people they don’t know. My 2 daughters (17 and 10) and I watch TSS every evening and tape it whenever we are not home. We really enjoy the way all of you interact together. Don’t change anything! While on the message boards I stumbled on messages about Leo’s leaving and how things will change with the new ownership. I hope it’s all only half as bad as it sounds.
Keep up the great work! YOU GO GIRL!
