A little of everything.
For some reason working in television makes me watch less television. You'd think we'd all be a bunch of TV junkies, but I actually think most of us don't want to turn work back on when we get home. That said, I do have my guilty viewing pleasures. And they're really guilty.
1. Inside the Actor's Studio on Bravo- I don't care who the actor is. If that show's on, I'll watch. I always want to know what their favorite cuss words are, and if he exists, what they'd like God to say as they're entering the pearly gates. And that James Lipton! What a kidder.
2. Emeril on Food Network- I know it's really dorky to have a band on your cooking set and all that jazz, but let's face it. Emeril can cook. I love to watch good food come together! But I don't clap like the others.
3. Maternity Ward on TLC-- I can't watch reality medical shows. I hate them. They make me seriously ill. Except when it's about babies, and then I'm riveted.
4. Golden Girls reruns on Lifetime- I'm sorry, but that show is absolutely brilliant. Bea Arthur, you're my hero.
In saner news, I just paid off all my credit card debt! While this great feat required me to slash into my modest nest egg (always a drag), the rewards clearly shine brighter. I literally laughed out loud as I cut up my stupid WebMiles Visa card. Goodbye! Never again will I be coaxed into a bogus deal with your manipulative kind! Boy, it feels good to be just a little bit more free.
Let's see... I just bought a dress for a friend's wedding. Women's clothing is such a rip! But it's a really nice dress. I rationalize it by telling myself I'll just wear it to a bunch of other weddings coming up soon (of which there are none). And I wonder how I got into debt....
Ok, Blanche is buying a new car and Rose might buy her old one.. gotta go.

Now that you're out of debt, you can run out and make a bunch of big purchases without thinking of the cost again! ;)
Posted by: Brian | Thursday, August 21, 2003 at 12:15 AM
Well, my wife ran up three credit cards mightily! I had to go to my nest egg but I paid all (three of them) and I now have ONE credit card I pay all the amount monthly.
Now I owe only the monthly bills but I have nothing of value and drive an old car but I'm debt free!!! I've heard some place their old cards in a blender or shoot them but I just cut mine into multiple pieces.
As said on Braveheart, 'FREEDOM'.
Congratulations Sarah.

If you love Emeril and like seeing food all come together, I'd suggest "Good Eats." It's hosted by Alton Brown, and he's a GENIUS and funny too!! Each show revolves around food or dish. Then, while cooking the dish, he will explain where certain ingredients come from, or why you use some ingredients (like chemical reasons for using wines in some tomato dishes), or the anthropology of the ingredient. Then, while also cooking, he'll usually do equipment information, like taking care of your knives, or even picking the right peeler! It sounds sort of dry, but he's just so darned entertaining, too!
I simply LOVE this show...you can check it out at 9:00EST and PST (right after Emeril, no less). I hope you enjoy it!!

Get out .... Yan Can Cook is the best ...
Posted by: iom | Thursday, August 21, 2003 at 02:09 AM
Congrats on the credit thing....it is such a good feeling, just so darn hard to keep it going. I have paid my cards off and keep my current bill paid at the month's end. So much saner than wasting all that money on interest. Good for you!! Now go buy yourself a gift...ha ha!! Only with cash, darlin'.
Posted by: Bob | Thursday, August 21, 2003 at 02:16 AM
I have to agree on the Yan Can Cook thing, but I haven't watched that since I was in grade school when my aunt made me watch it.
You said credit card debt... does that mean you still have other debt(s) like student/car loans? I can speak for having all 3. :)
Posted by: glenn | Thursday, August 21, 2003 at 05:59 AM
I'd have to agree with Ryan D. "Good Eats" is the best show on Food Network, but anything with Sarah Moulton is pretty damn good too!

Congrats on the freedom from debt!!
I agree with ya on the not watching the work. When I was a "background actor", "a Prop that eats" or basically an extra. I found it hard to watch a movie without criticizing it, and american TV too. Kept looking for my fellow extras, instead of getting into the story.
Though I love the BBCAmerica, CNN, WWF(now WWE)
and of coarse TechTV.

Oh man, I love Golden Girls! My girlfriend and I watch it everyday. We try to guess which episode it is in the first 5 seconds. What isn't to love about slutty, smartass, old ladies?

Good Eats and Oliver's Twist are two of our favorite cooking shows. That makes Wednesday night a Food night for TV (Emeril, Good Eats, Oliver's Twist).
Oliver's Twist - Jamie Oliver cooks really wonderful food that is based on simplicity (and Olive Oil) and fresh ingredients.
Enjoy the debt free life. Then buy a house ;-)

Good Eats is a really great cooking show. But my favorite show on FoodTV by far is Unwrapped.

Emeril sucks haggis! I hate that bastard! Bam!

YES, Emeril is the man, he's from my hometown of Fall River, MA and rocks the Portuguese cuisine!! And, to top it all off, I was just in New Orleans and drove right by his restaurant... looked a little too pricey for my budget tho ;)

Even when the TV's on I don't watch it much. I like to be stimulated orally or aurally. ;) I love comedy central with Friday night stand up, SNL reruns, and other shows I've missed or haven't seen. Tech TV is my alternate tech news source. And the local news channels keep me informed of my surroundings. A majority of TV sucks with it's bombardment of commercials and infomercials. Which is why the movie, video game, and music industry beats them. I'm still a big music listener over all. It keeps me free to do what I want to do. Added Evanescence Fallen to my collection and it's grown on me. "My god, my tourniquet!"
It's always good to be debt free. I still have my auto insurance in the back of my mind haunting me. It was due 3 days ago. It's sad that some business's resort to manipulating people with "FREE!" and other catch phrases instead of providing a good service. I almost got hooked a couple times until I read the "fine print". All the bastards of the world trained me to be more cautious than I'd like to be. Damn, I wish I was a kid again. Have fun at the wedding. And enjoy your episodes of the Silver... I mean Golden Girls. ;)

“My Computer”sucks!
Why not just create a “Windows Explorer” shortcut on your desktop?
“Windows Explorer” always opens to “My Documents” and that sucks too.
I want the “Windows Explorer” shortcut that I created on my desktop to open to “My Computer”.
Ok,right click on the “Windows Explorer” shortcut you created on your desktop. In the “Target” field paste this
%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,
Coool now my “Windows Explorer” desktop shortcut opens to “My Computer”.
Now that doesn’t suck!

Yeah, Emeril is more entertainer than chef. And he's not the best cook, but has some good recipes. I liked his thai food segment. But he doesn't beat my mom. SalaPOW! (thai meat filled steamed buns). And yes, Yan Can Cook, and good eats is da bomb.
Everyone should learn their keyboard accelerators. Win+e, alt+ tab or F4, tab and shift+tab, alt then space then a character in the context menu. Look em' all up and enjoy the speed over a gui. For even more speed try a wireless playstation controller to a USB converter to a joystick to keyboard and mouse emulator with a popup gui keystroker and speech recognition whew... and you become a master. Or you could just get a chorded or half QWERTY keyboard ;)
Stay Cool,

Bea Arthur made me sick in "Maude"! (showing my age here) I couldn't even watch "Goden Girls" commercials.
Women's clothing is a rip! My wife has shown me this over the years.
Women's clothing = No closet space for men
Food Shows = The Fruegal Gormet (the age thing again)

Congrats on the credit card payoff. I love your show and always look forward to your segments. Do you really read these comments?

Even though deep down in my heart I know that Alton Brown is a much smarter and better chef than I can ever hope of becoming, I HATE Alton Brown! I hate his show! BAM! Let's kick it up a notch! BAM! BAM! BAM!

Don't feel sorry. The Golden Girls is probaly one of the best shows ever. I think Sophia is my favorite.
Posted by: Erin | Sunday, August 24, 2003 at 12:09 PM
Sorry, Sarah, gotta twix...
1. Inside the Actor's Studio on Bravo- Snooze city.
Better show: E! True Hollyweird Story. High-quality dirt.
2. Emeril on Food Network: Too New Joisey-ish.
Better show: Good Eats with Alton Brown. Learn all you can about one food! Specialization is the key here!
3. Maternity Ward on TLC. How depressing!
Better show: Animal Cops/Precinct on Animal Planet. These folks hunt down people who are bad to animals. The vets usually do a great job bringing the starving ones back...usually.
4. Golden Girls reruns on Lifetime. Too '80s (not the decade but the years of age.)
Better show: The Nanny. Way hip. Fran Drescher is MY age, but looks as tight as you, Sarah. Plus, you can learn a second language. (Yiddish)
Try 'em you'll like em...
