Site of the Night: Veepers

Looking for the crazy site I talked about on tonight's TSS? The one where you can animate your plain old photos and make your subjects say funny things? Click here for Veepers!

Only caveat: Firefox is still unsupported, but you can still use Netscape if you're trying to avoid IE.

I'd love to see your best efforts. Make sure to email me the gems when you're done!

Leo and Monica covered this awhile back on CFH. Oh, how it's great to be a Canadian :)

David

The site gives me a runtime error and makes me close IE. I want to use this!!! What is going wrong?

Les

Dig the veepers. I actually used it back when it was an ATT project a few years ago. Forgot all about it until you spotlighted it on TSS.

John-Paul

Funny show tonight. I agree with Kevin Veepers is creepers.

I want to know who picks the on air questions, which gadget should I buy? your telling me out of all the questions fielded THAT was the best? It's right up there 'with which movie should I watch?' as two of the most pointless screensaver questions ever.

David

No one knows about the runtime error??? :(

Matt

Actually, the site works fine in Firefox, if you just lie to it and tell it you're using Netscape, like so:

- type in 'about:config' in the location bar
- scroll down to the 'general.useragent.override' preference
- change the value to: 'Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.2) Gecko/20040804 Netscape/7.2'
- load the veepers page

When you're done, do the following to set it back to the default:

- type in 'about:config' in the location bar (again)
- scroll down to the 'general.useragent.override' preference (again)
- right-click the preference name and choose 'reset'

(There are also a few extensions out there like 'user agent switcher' that will let you switch back and forth quickly, but you'll still probably need to use the user agent string above to configure them right)

Jeremy

Best show in a while. I like Alex, but Marty is just hillarious.

It appears that ecard.veepers.com is down or offline.

Dev

I still have a SmartMorph that I wanted to send Sarah. Where would I send that? She doesn't seem to be responding to me.

Highway

Send it to sarah@g4techtv.com

Highway

OOps... change that to sarah@sarahlane.com

Sarah... glad you used my suggestion for veepers on the air (not sure if you saw mine specifically or if multiple people sent this suggestion to you). I know... they are hilarious. Hope you liked the sample one of Kevin that I sent you a couple of months ago! :)

jaden

Love the veepers - have to say that was one of the funniest TSSs Ive ever seen. Love the spontaneity, and the TV dinner segment was classic.

James

Hmmmm not sure why coders of websites hate Mozilla Firefox. I don't trust Internet Explorer at all even with it's "Update" that come with SP2 updates.

Kdogg

It's not that they hate FireFox but that they are to lazy to code there websites so it works in all browsers. I hate when people use Microsoft technology to code there websites so it only works on IE.

IdleOne

great site! thanks :D

Emery Walker

They need to make sites for Mozilla broswer. It a very safe broswer then IE. Netscape is simlar to Mozilla.

Your site of the night was great. I never knew you could do that with people in a photo. It a neat and fun way to make your eyes blink and you say something. Thanks for offering the site and showing us how to use the site. You pick great sites for us.

John-Paul

I think last fridays show was one of the funniest, and I honestly believe everyone on that set that day was completely geeked on caffine. Then throw in Trey Parker and Matt Stone what more could you want?

John-Paul

I forgot though, it was just wrong how they were talking about Grand Theft Auto being leaked and then the first commercial that came on after that was for GTA, and I can't help but thinking now instead of the commercial doing its inteded purpose to get people to buy it, it probably instead just reminding the pirates to go download the game.

But I know Kevin and Alex are just doing their job but and giving us the game news but still, g4 does have advertizers, I'm sure somewhere along the way they care about that kind of thing. I just love, the New Screen Savers is a big headache for a g4 suit somewhere right now is probably pulling all his hair out with the path the show is taking. Or the legal department must be working overtime lately.

David

Ok, when I put about:config in the address bar it gave me a Page Cannot be Displayed page. Veepers works with IE5 though and it's on my older computer, so I'm using it. Veepers is great! :)

Hi, Sarah!

I'm the PR flak - er, director of corporate communications, cough cough - here at Pulse Entertainment. I speak for of all of us at Pulse when I say "thanks for the props on your show!" :) We really appreciated the coverage and resulting traffic, and the comments from posters to your blog were helpful and fun to read.

I thought you might want to alert your blog visitors to a new site we recently launched that enables people to put words in the mouths of Bush, Kerry, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Michale Moore, and other 'political figures' (shown in humorous and/or compromising scenes). It works just like the ecard site you referenced, but is totally geared to letting people voice their political opinions. Here's the URL: http://shoutout.veepers.com
