Gmail Goodies
Got an account yet? If not, see Kevin. But don't feel bad if you're still trying to get invited... it won't change your life or make you a better person, regardless of what the "haves" tell you. Believe me, if the perfect pair of red shoes can't do it, nothing will. :) And with the public release (which isn't too far since everyone and their cat has like 12 invites these days), this silliness will all be web history.
That said, Gmail is nifty and there are a lot of ways to make it work better for you. Here are a few free options:
1. Pop Goes the Gmail - Route Gmail through your favorite POP3 client
2. G-Tray - Getting tired of logging in over and over? Add a systray notification app and log in automatically when you've got new msgs
3. GML- Import days, months, or years of email archives into Gmail- multiple clients and OS's supported
4. G-Mailto- Make mailto: links auto-open in Gmail.
More to come as I find 'em.....
:)

I <3 you Sarah, those things really help make Gmail more desirable to use.

Any one with a g-mail please send one to me and make my day : )

I got my gmail invite today so i just started using most of these apps. I found pop goes the gmail to be a cool tool to use but in the end annoying since the links for controlling the mail in the account doesn't really work from outlook 2003 (dont knwo if anyone else has had similar problems). I found g-tray to be completely unresponsive (it froze my system twice before I finally killed it in the awful trash can) and I really don't see the point of GML. While I like gmail and I think its cool and all - it still lacks the functionality I need from a primary e-mail program. I need advanced contact lists, calendar functionality, and the ability to make folders (yeah, I know labels work like folders do but I just can't stand looking at everything in one page all splurted together). Overall I'm not too happy with gmail so far (note that this could change with future updates to the system, its still beta). I think we might see a google toolbar with gtray functionality soon enough anyway :-D (or at least i hope we do).

I'm just curious. Why would anybody need 3 gmail accounts. 3 hormail accounts I can understand, what with the limited storage and all, but 3 gmail accounts? I guess I just don't get it.

Whoops. Bad spelling. I meant Hotmail, not hormail. Doh!

Hi Sarah,
I would like to start out by saying thank you for the Gmail accessories. Some of them were very helpful. I just have a few questions I was hoping you could answer for me. I was wondering if you knew when Techtv is going wake up and bring back the old site or at least make the new one more organized. (I’m sorry I don’t want to sound negative towards you and if you know the webmaster my apologies). I liked the old website because every thing was easier to find and all the information that Techtv had to offer was heavily linked. There were times when I had to make some changes on my PC and if I needed an answer I could just do a Google search using the + option and find things just like that. For example let’s say I need a reg edit I could type in regedit + Techtv and just like that my answer was right there. Now I try that and get Techtv’s default error page. I realize that there are thousands like me out there who were angry about the same thing but I was hoping you would enlighten us all on the status. Also I was wondering if you have heard of Dreamwiz.com. I ask this because it is said they offer “Unlimited” email storage for their free email account holders. The problem though, is that it’s a Korean based website. If you were to type in www.dreamwiz.com , you’d get a page full of Korean font. If you have heard or have experience with this site please email me and let me know if there is an English version. If any of these questions have been already answered here on your blog, I’m sorry for repeating the question, I’m not a frequent. In fact I just started coming to your site.

Sarah:
Thanks for linking to my Google Mail Loader (GML). The utility started off as just a little something to help me kickstart my GMail account, but after recieving numerous bug reports and feature suggestions, it has grown into a cross-platform graphical application with over 10,000 downloads since I first posted it online.
It's been pretty neat to develop this app. Lots of fun things have happened. Someone pirated a copy and sold it on ebay (of free software, no doubt), and as you see from the post above about gExodus, there are even clones. Most interestingly, I got called by a recruiter at Google! Amazing.
So anyway, thanks for your link!

Also, if you go to the mozilla firefox site and to the Extensions downloads, they have a couple of plugins for the firefox browser - one is a gmail notifier and the other is a gmail sendto: type of plugin. You can click on an email link in a web page and it will open up the gmail site so you can send an email from your gmail account.
