Hoi An
It's certainly a luxury having cable television in our hotel rooms, but sometimes, like last night, it's frustrating. Among the English language channels, of which there are two, I had my choice between mens ice dancing and a movie called "Raging Sharks" staring Corbin Bersen as a submarine captain. I never heard of it either. The problem is while it's nice understanding what's being said, there just isn't much variety of English language shows. I suppose I'm better off without television at all. (I know, you're probably thinking maybe he should go out and do something instead of sitting around his hotel room bitching. However, Vietnam can be exausting, and everybody needs to sit around and watch TV once in a while. Don't they?)
We are in Hoi An. It's been a slow week. We have shopped for clothes and sat around the pool. That's it. Hoi An is known for their tailors, and since it's cheap, we got some clothes made. I got a new black suit (replacing my one brown suit) for $60. Sarah got too many coats. We also bought a painting for a song. I don't think you can ever feel more grown up (not always a good thing) than while shopping for art.
Everything is cheap here. We are spending about $4 on meals. That's two dinners and two beers for the price of a large coffee in the states. Bikes for the day (two) cost $1.40. DVD of "Munich" $1.00. The best part about all this, Laos is supposedly cheaper than Vietnam. That's where we're headed tomorrow. Our bus ride to Hue leaves at 7:30 am. Another bus to Savannakhet leaves Hue at 6:30 pm that same day getting in at 11:30 am the next day. It's also reportedly very very bumpy. Should be fun.
Man, talk about cheap. They might as well just give stuff away in Laos. Have fun on that long trip there.

Nice suit! i got one last time i was in vietnam and it was great, you don't find that many tailors who are so helpful in america anymore. did you know that most of the TV shows in vietname are just english shows with vietnamese voiceovers? you can hear the english under the vietnamese. the only problem is hearing the english version and not mixing it up with the vietnamese

If all you can get is Corbin Bernsen, then your answer is no, you don't need TV.
Keep the pictures coming. Beautiful.
